Unlike Miles, Katie had never completely adjusted to her life as a boy. When she had swapped with her younger brother, she had gone from a senior on the verge of the rest of her life to being a high school sophomore again.
Having to relive high school — in the body of an underdeveloped teenage boy no less — wasn’t in Katie’s plan. While she initially tried to make the most of the situation, she quickly lost her drive. What was the point of it? She had always dreamed of a nice quiet life with 2.5 kids and a picket fence. Now that the dream had been taken from her, she did not see the point of anything anymore.
After she graduated high school for the second time, she moved to the city and quickly lost touch with the rest of her family. Moving from one low-paying job to the next, Katie ecked out a lonely existance. Never truly able to form a relationship — her conservative values prevented her from following through on her hormones (even though she had persuaded her brother to do just that).
She was miserable and lonely and, quite frankly, couldn’t take it anymore. Contemplating suicide, she was shocked when her former body showed up at her apartment one day out of the blue with a shocking announcement.
